Mount Airy driver prevails at Friendship Speedway

FRIENDSHIP — Mount Airy’s Noel Tucker grabbed his sixth Crate Late Model division win of the season Saturday night at Friendship Motor Speedway.
Tucker set a quick time in trials to start the special $1,500 feature event. He started on the front row beside points contender Keith Holder.
As the green flag flew, Tucker grabbed the lead, but Holder battled back. Several times, Holder moved to the inside, but could not get around. Finally, mechanical problems ended his night.
Chase McCormick rallied to second, but got challenged by Mitchell Coble and Chris Cheek in a three-way battle for second. Coble took the spot for a few laps, but Cheek put on a show to move into the spot behind Tucker.
Tucker, however, never flinched. Cheek came home in second with Coble in third. Tony Hicks reclaimed the points lead with his fourth place run.
In the Super Street division, Daniel Moss and Andy Mathis won their heat events to start from the front row. Mathis, last week’s feature winner, looked to make it two straight as he grabbed the early lead over points leader Daniel Moss. Jeff Parsons, George Anen and Jimmy Watson added to the chase.
Mathis took the checkered flag with Parsons in tow for the second straight event. Anen took third with Watson in fourth and Moss fifth.
In the Four Cylinder event, Justin Hudspeth and Tommy Zachary were scheduled to kick things off, but Hudspeth dropped out before the race started with mechanical issues.
Billy Robbins moved to the point along side Zachary, who led early, sending Robbins back to second to battle Sandy Martin, who was holding off Matthew Warden.
Zachary won his third event this year. Robbins took the points lead away from Robbie Brown with a second-place run. Martin once again finished in the top three, taking third. Warden was fourth with Brown falling back to fifth.
In the U-Car feature event, Jessica Mendenhall started from row one beside Boo Boo Dalton, who took the early lead.
Ben Walker and Matthew Barker came from the back of the field to make it a four-way battle to the checkered flag. Walker grabbed his first win of the season. Josh Clonch finished second but was disqualified in a post-race inspections. Dalton was moved into second with Barker in third. The finish allowed Barker to reclaim the points lead from C.J. Lyons.
Friendship Motor Speedway will be closed Saturday so drivers can participate in a special FASTRAK Crate Late Model event at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Va.
