Thirteen young Surry County golfers took to the Mount Airy Country Club Tuesday in the final round of the two-day Junior Club Championship.
Nick Peavy won the bracket for boys ages 12-15 with a score of 36 over nine holes on a blistering hot day, giving the 15-year-old a score of 75 for two nine-hole rounds. That was eight strokes better than three golfers tied for second place at 83 — Taylor Coalson, who closed with a round of 40; Bailey Bauma, who shot 44 Tuesday; and Wade Lewis, who shot 45 after leading the first day with a 38.

Madeline Angel, 14, edged 15-year-old Megan Sydnor, 115 to 120, in a battle between the two young ladies in the tournament.
In a battle of the youngest pairing, Alex Hall, 7 took first-place honors with a two-day total of 123, besting Chance Sizemore, 8, who shot 143.
Corbin Soots, 10, was the only player in his age bracket, shooting a 47 and 58 for a two-day total of 105 strokes.

“These kids have been practicing hard the last couple of weeks to get ready for the past two days, and they showed their stuff this week,” said Kent Shumate, club pro at Mount Airy County Club. “I thought they all played pretty well.”
